| Name: | The Hunter |
|---|
900 years ago, Erna was a terrifying land. A world where dreams had power, and Nightmares took on solid form to stalk the land. One man dared to try to tap into the fae, an invisible force that touched everything and everyone, perverting and destroying entire species' with little effort. This man gave a name to the fae, giving it form and substance. He used the fae to form his lands, making them safe for men to live in. Called the Prophet by the Church he helped to create, he was loved and worshipped by millions.
But he became too powerful. The Elders of the Church grew afraid of him, and began spreading lies, saying that he was mad and dangerous. Too quickly his work as the Prophet was forgotten, and he became feared, and hated. Fear is a powerful emotion, and the fae responds easily to power. The fear of thousands of people cursed the NeoCount of Merentha. A near-death experience showed him that he was doomed to an eternity in Hell for his supposed crimes. Crimes of Sorcery, murder, and destruction. Crimes he had not committed.
Frightened for his soul, Gerald Tarrant began searching for salvation. Knowing that Death would lead to Hell, Tarrant sought to become immortal. In his quest for Immortality, he slaughtered his family, torturing them slowly to use their pain and fear in his dark work. Realising what he had done, however, he killed himself in his grief.
Or so the story goes.
Tarrant is not dead. He has lived the last 900 years as The Hunter, a being of great power and greater legend. Having sold himself to the Nameless Ones and twisted by the Dark fae he tried to conquer, he is now a being of darkness. A psychic vampire that feeds upon the negative emotions of those around him to survive, the Hunter rarely leaves his safe-haven, an evil land at the center of a whirlpool of Dark fae, a place called simply The Forest. Only occasionally does he venture out, prefering to send his minions to find suitable victims for him. He has become the being the Church made him to be.
Physical Description: Tall and pale, with shoulder length (or longer) blonde hair and cold blue eyes, Tarrant possesses an almost feminine beauty. If he hasn't fed recently, his skin becomes almost transparent. He is able to use the fae to change his form, becoming a giant white wolf, or great white bird at will. These transformations often involve him bursting into flames... flames which burn bright blue, and freeze whatever they touch. He always dresses nicely, and carries a sword, which when drawn is engulfed in the same Cold Fire.
Weaknesses: yes, he has them... don't use them against him too much... he'll get suspicious Tarrant survives because of the Dark fae, a specialised form of fae which is extremely powerful, endlessly volatile, and extraordinarily weak. Bright light, especially sunlight, blocks Tarrants connection to the Dark fae, as does deep water (it's a form of Earth fae). Deep water makes him nervous and drowsy... sunlight will kill him. Also, despite his reputation he is a man of great morality and ethics (even if these ethics and morals are a bit... perverted) and the nature of his pact with the Nameless Ones makes it difficult for him to break an oath. Although he can lie with great ease, he doesn't often, prefering to simply omit certain things and allow others to draw the wrong conclusion. However, if he swears an oath, breaking it is literally physically painful for him... leaving him weakened and unable to use his full powers for a time of penance determined by the severity of his oath-breaking.
Bar type differences: The fae doesn't work quite right at Milliways. Although it runs over and around and through everything (it would have to or he wouldn't be able to survive walking through the door) it isn't predictable as it should be. Different dimensions seem to have different affects on the fae, and although he'll probably eventually figure it out for right now he's only using the fae when absolutely necessary, until he can work out the consequences. So he's doing things the mundane way when possible. But that doesn't mean he likes it.
